Book Clubs

The Odyssey Bookshop currently hosts three book clubs.

The Open Fiction Book Group reads one paperback novel a month and its discussions are led by local author Chrysler Szarlan. The group typically meets the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. Since the store will officially close at 6:00, please arrive a few minutes early to purchase your books.

The Crime Club reads one paperback mystery a month and its discussions are led by Joanne Picard. The group typically meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.  Note: Even though the store is closed, we will still meet at 7:00 p.m.. However, you must use the upstairs (College Street) entrance, as the ground floor entrance (parking lot) will be locked. In addition, if you wish to buy the book for the subsequent month (at the regular club discount), please bring a check. It's the only kind of payment that can be accepted during off-hours at the store.

The Active Citizens Book Group! Join us to discuss current affairs in the US and around the world. Future topics will include the environment, racism, economic and gender inequality, and workers' rights. This group meets monthly on the last Sunday of the month, at 4 p.m.

All groups are open to the public and accepting new members. Selections for Odyssey-hosted bookclubs are available for purchase in the store or online and are 20% off for group members. Use code BOOKCLUB to apply discount at checkout.

Book Group Discounts

Additionally, The Odyssey offers 20% off book group selections for other area bookclubs, if you order five or more per title at least two weeks in advance of the date you need them, to be picked up and paid for by one person. The best way to place a book group discount order is to call the Odyssey at 413-534-7307 to speak to one of our booksellers. When the books come in, we’ll call the contact person and place the books behind the counter to be picked up. Please give us plenty of time, so we can have the books available – most groups like to have the books in hand a full month before the meeting at which they’ll be discussed.
