Course Book Buyback at the Odyssey Bookshop Just sell your books back to the Odyssey and you will be entered to win one of three gift certificates for $100. Details. Buyback at the Odyssey Bookshop The Odyssey buys back as many used course books as possible to provide students with cash for the books they no longer need. Our official buyback periods are usually during final exams, but we buy course books almost any day the store is open (except for a few weeks at the beginning of the semester). The buyback price of a book is determined by a variety of factors. Course books fall into three categories: Wholesale books We buy books on behalf of a major used book wholesale company, which determines the price we pay. Most books have a 'wholesale' buyback value of 10% - 20% of the new book price. At the end of the buyback period, we will ship all books bought at the wholesale price back to the wholesaler. We receive a small commission for this work. Half-price course books If an instructor has notified us that a book will be used in a course next semester, we will pay one-half of the current new book price (even if you bought the book used). We determine how many of these half-price is books we will need for a course and when we have met that anticipated goal for the upcoming semester, we will then usually buy the book for use by a used book wholesaler. By waiting until the official buyback period, there will be a greater likelihood that we will have received a course order from the professor, and can buy a book from you at half price rather than the wholesale amount. No Value books Many books are considered of no value, and we cannot pay the student anything for them. These are usually old editions, but sometimes they are current editions that have little or no demand, or which are so plentiful on the market, that the company does not want any more of them.
