It’s that time of year again! The Odyssey Bookshop proudly presents its 23rd Annual Children’s Writing Contest. Enclosed is an informational sheet including the rules for this year’s contest, as well as a page of entry forms. We hope you will distribute the forms to your classes or identify a few of your students who love to write.

This year’s prompt:

You find a key—and there is a mysterious note attached. Do you try to find what the key unlocks? If so, how? If not, what do you think the key opens? Is it a hidden door? A treasure chest? A cage with a magical creature inside?

The entries will be judged on the originality of the story, the creativity of the idea, and quality of writing, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Children in Grades 1-5 are eligible and encouraged to enter. An entry form must be attached to each submission. Contact details for the child’s parent or guardian must be provided so we can easily contact the winners. Due to the low amount of foreign language entries we are no longer accepting submissions in Chinese and Spanish.

The deadline for entries is 7:00 PM on Friday, April 29th. Winners will be notified by Friday, May 6th in time for the Awards Ceremony at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 19th, at the Odyssey Bookshop. We will award prizes to the winners, who will be invited to read their stories aloud at the ceremony.

Please see the files below to download the Writing Contest informational sheet and extra entry forms, both of which you can also find at the Odyssey!
