This year’s prompt:

You happen upon a ship - is it a spaceship, a pirate ship, or maybe a battleship? Where is it going? What happens next? Do you encounter aliens? Is there a mutiny? Do you discover a new planet and name it after yourself?

The entries will be judged on the originality of the story, the creativity of the idea, and quality of writing, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Children in Grades 1-5 are eligible and encouraged to enter. An entry form must be attached to each submission. Contact details for the child’s parent or guardian must be provided so we can easily contact the winners. Due to the low amount of foreign language entries we are no longer accepting submissions in Chinese and Spanish.

The deadline for entries is 7:00 PM on Friday, April 27th. Winners will be notified by Friday, May 9th in time for the Awards Ceremony at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 24th, at the Odyssey Bookshop. We will award prizes to the winners, who will be invited to read their stories aloud at the ceremony.
