Book Drive

Throughout the month of March, Odyssey Bookshop will be taking donations of Spanish-language and bilingual books for Libros Para el Viaje, a book drive for migrants at the southwest border. The Odyssey will sort and pack the books, cover the shipping costs of all donated titles, and pledges to purchase a significant number titles for the book drive.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

  • Purchase recommended titles at Odyssey Bookshop
  • Purchase one of more titles from our curated wish list here
  • Bring your new and slightly used Spanish-language and bilingual books to Odyssey Bookshop. (Books will be screened for quality and condition.)

As an independent bookstore, we strive to bring readers and writers together from many communities and cultures, and to support their learning, growth, and success. Through this book drive for Libros Para el Viaje, we hope to extend that community support outside of the Pioneer Valley, across state and international borders.

ABOUT LIBROS PARA EL VIAJE

Started in 2019 by Denise Chávez, author and owner of Casa Camino Real bookstore in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Libros Para el Viaje provides Spanish-language and bilingual titles to children and adults at the U.S.-Mexico border who are waiting for their immigration cases to be heard. It also supplies books to a library in Anapra, a small, working class community that borders New Mexico. In the wake of President Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, Libros Para el Viaje expanded its efforts and, in partnership with Border Servant Corps, began delivering books and gifts to refugees at the border and at the camps near international bridges in Ciudad Juárez. The Odyssey is proud to join these incredible efforts, and help send books — and hope — to those in need at the border and in the migrant camps on both sides.
